and the wait continues........

We are still waiting for the big day. Sarah is ready, I am ready, now we just have to get the baby ready. Here are a couple of things that I have been wanting to post on in the last couple of days. With Sarah out of the house, I have a couple of minutes to spare before a little "LOST" and maybe even "XBox"

I wanted to give a shout out to my sister-in-law who gave me a Wine Vine for Christmas. Check it out, I finally got the darn thing hung up and it looks great. Thanks Ebeth.

I was able to put together our super sweet stroller. We loved the design and options that the stroller offered.

There have also been a number of people eliminated from the "BABY CONTEST". See below for those people who have been eliminated. I also have been eliminated, because my guess was January 26th.

The Gunthers
Thelma and Jeremy

There are a bunch of people who are hoping for the 1st of February so maybe tomorrow is the day. Keep checking the blog for the latest updates.

Just Waiting

We enjoyed another weekend together and are just waiting for little Comet to make his/her entrance. We worked on a few projects around the house and my "honey-do" list has just a few more items I'd love for Minor to help us cross off before Comet's arrival. I guess it's that nesting thing many of the books mention. He's been such a help the last couple of weeks, helping grocery shop and cooking some great recipes from Cooks Illustrated for us.

The question we usually get after telling people that we didn't find out the gender of the baby is what did you do for the nursery? There were actually lots of options, but it was easy for us to decide or rather me to decide on a theme: farm. Both our grandparents had farms, so we have many childhood memories from spending time on their farms, as well as the language development that will come from the "farm theme" goes oh, so well with our educational background. We just need to reach a decision on what type of pictures to hang on the walls. This may take awhile, since we both have some ideas on what we'd like to hang up. Minor did the refinishing of the old school chalkboard for the wall. It's never to early to be reading and writing, right?! He just needs to hang it on the wall.

Perhaps our next post will be photos of our little Comet! I guess we'll just have to keep waiting to find out!

Wash my Back

Still no baby, but man are those cankles lookin nice. It has been a wonderful day here in Austin, TX. First thing this morning upon starting my computer, I discovered Austin was going to be getting a professional futbol (soccer) team starting in 2009. The Austin Aztex (aren't we doing away with all of Native American themed names, but maybe that was only Native American groups originally located in the US. I do like the prospective team colors) will be playing in the USL 1, which also happens to be the same league as the Minnesota Thunder. I am willing to wager a team scarf we get the win when we play the Thunder for the first time, any takers?

Then when I got home, I got this video from Sarah E. This video features Concordia students and, to the best of my knowledge, was shot at hot spots around campus. I don't know what I liked more, the dancing in the shower in the men's locker room (I won't even tell you what kind of nastyness happened in that shower) or the Lutheran lookin ladyz getting their groove on as back-up dancers. I can tell you, with near certainty, that those girls were not residents of Wollaeger Hall (not heavy enough), my guess is Luther Hall girls (if you ever been to Luther Hall you know what I am talking about)

I am sure this is endorsed by the LCMS. I will be looking for it in the next hymn book.

Packed and Ready

We just enjoyed a three day weekend, due to the MLK holiday. It was a wonderful weekend that gave us the opportunity to finish our last minute preparations for Comet's arrival. We put the car seat in the car, ordered our stroller (it will arrive later this week), and my hospital bags are packed.

We also took time to go to a movie and attended the first gathering of our supper club. We kept wondering during the weekend if this was the last weekend it will be just the two of us or if we will have another weekend or two before Comet decides to make his/her entrance! We're ready, as ready as you can be, I guess. We're just waiting now to see how this next adventure will begin for us. It's sure to be amazing!

(One of my dear girlfriends found this fun question mark shirt for me to wear! It's been so fun not knowing what we're having and has only added to the excitement! The pic was taken a few weeks ago.)

Tons and Tons of Baby Related Classes

I did not realize that you had to attend all of these baby related classes leading up to the "big event". Lets see in the last week we have attended a birthing class (six hours) with another class on Saturday (another 6 hours). We also have a breast-feeding class next week (2.5 hours). We also did a pediatrician meet and great, which seemed like a high school dance with all of the yet to be socially developed freshmen (all of the future parents) trying to get a dance with the cool seniors (1 of 4 pediatricians at the meet and great). As luck will have it everybody seemed to desire a dance with one really cool senior, this was also the very pediatrician recommended by our doctor. Just like most of my high school dance experiences, the really cool doctor was already spoken for (not excepting new patients) but she did leave us with a glimmer of hope saying that she didn't really know if she was taking new patients, and we would have to talk to her friend, who would eventually be the one that would turn us down gently but firmly. No worries, I am sure we can scrounge up a wonderful doctor, because the last time I got a look at the "cool kids" from high school, they were still living at home and delivering papers for a little extra money.

The weekend is nearly here, and it can't come soon enough. I need me some futbol and football to get over all of these scintillating baby related classes.

The end of break.

The time is fast approaching when the Bakers will return to the public school system to work. I have really enjoyed having my 16 days off. Although I would like to say that I went skiing or did lots of golfing, the truth is I spent most of the time getting this house ready for a baby. Let me rephrase that, Sarah and her parents have spent most to the time getting this house ready for a baby, I have just tried to stay out of the way.

I think that aside from figuring out how to put the baby seat in the car, and finding a stroller we are ready for "Comet" to show up. I was able to spend some time in my office today getting things organized for the upcoming weeks, and that was good, but just the thought of getting up before 8:30am is really starting to scare me. (I know what you are all thinking -- 8:30, once you have that baby you will be lucky to make it til 6am.)

Baker Baby Contest

We are getting ready to go to the doctor this morning, for our weekly appointment. This has inspired me to come up with the official "Baker Baby Contest." I am not sure what the official prize will be for the winner, but we will provide an awesome prize to the winner of the contest. Here is how you win.

In the comments section we would like you to guess the following unknown facts about the baby.
1. Sex
2. Date of Birth
3. Weight at birth (this will be used as a tiebreaker)

Good luck. Here is the information that we already know, and we have already been sharing with people. The official due date is February 2nd and as of right now the Dr. Mac thinks the baby is between 5 and 6 pounds.
